Dell G7 7590 RTX 2070 MQ Gaming Laptop Review

How are you fellas, this is Ashish from GadgetRaja Team, and today I am going to review a gaming beast, Dell G7 7590 RTX 2070 MQ. Announced and showcased in CES 2019, Dell G7 is a budget-to mid-tier gaming laptop that replaces last year’s Inspiron 15 700 series.

The first thing that struck me about this series was its naming convention, “G7”. It’s not only less confusing but also seems to be a little more professional and adapted to players. So, for a long time, I have had plans to find a “suitable” alternative to my Acer Predator Helios 300 G3-572.

Now, when I use a term like “suitable,” I mean a powerful, modern, and gaming-optimized laptop that should be capable of handling AAA+ titles without breaking a sweat. Thankfully, I got an opportunity to visit CES. I went to every brand corner to find their latest lineups. Before going to the CES, I heard rumors that Dell intended to present their brand new line-up. Trust me, I was incredibly excited about it, but unfortunately, I missed their event live.

Even though I missed the event, I got the opportunity to test their G7 series in hand, and that was the point I knew I had found my next gaming laptop. And guess what, two months after the event, I finally got my own Dell G7 7590 with i7 8750h and RTX 2070.

Dell has stepped up its game with its line of gaming laptops. Their all-new G7 series is no exception. It comes in a premium-looking metallic body with blue accents, which looks aesthetically pleasing.

Display

Right off the bat, I was attracted by the model’s 15.6-inch display with comes with an impressively narrow bezel. A 15.6-inch display, to me, is the perfect ratio to get a semi-immersive experience with a laptop without sacrificing portability altogether.

That being said, I came into it, knowing the previous models’ display itself didn’t impress too much. However, Dell heard the complaints of the previous model’s screen not being bright enough and revamped it in this iteration.G7 is capable of hitting 300 nits which is more than bright enough for an incredible experience even with ambient lighting.

It also happens to feature excellent viewing angles, given it’s an IPS display. However, where the display really shines is with its response time. Dell G7 display is capable of hitting 144Hz, which makes playing First Person Shooters (FPS games) on it an absolute pleasure. This alone makes the display incredibly desirable for those who value performance more than anything in games.

Performance of Dell G7 7590 RTX 2070 MQ

I know you only wanted to read this section.

Processor

The G7 features an absolute beast of a processor. It comes equipped with an 8th generation Core i7-8750H processor, which has a base clock speed of 2.20GHz and is capable of hitting 4.1GHz with Turbo Boost. Built with 14 nm semiconductor technology, it comes with 6 cores and 12 threads. Furthermore, it has a TDP of just 45 watts and comes with a 9MB L3 cache for the fastest performance.

Ram

This particular model came with 16GB of DDR4 RAM at 2666MHz, which is more than enough for anything that you could realistically throw at it. For me, it handled playing even the most RAM-heavy applications with ease, including having a resource hog like Chrome open in the background.

Storage

One of the most significant areas of improvement I noticed was with quick boot times, loading times, and smooth transitions when accessing programs on my SSD. This unit features a blazingly fast 512GB of M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.

NVMe SSD speed

This is one of the fastest drives on the market, and it features plenty of space for the average gamer to have multiple big games on it without needing external storage. This makes playing all kinds of games on the go easy without the need to re-download things continually.

Graphics Card

This is perhaps the most crucial aspect of any gaming laptop. Luckily, Dell didn’t disappoint with the graphics card they chose for it. This model features NVIDIA’s latest GeForce RTX 2070 with 8GB of GDDR6 with a Max-Q design.

This ensures that you are going to get the absolute best performance on some of the latest game releases. This is especially true with NVIDIA’s constant game-update drivers that release. You will even be able to take advantage of the newest technology called ray tracing, which can help to future-proof your gaming laptop for the next generation of gaming. Given all of the variables included, the laptop performed exceptionally well in every game I managed to throw at it.

If you love playing Fortnite or COD, you’ll be happy to know that this laptop is capable of delivering excellent and consistent performance with a high frame rate. While playing multiplayer games on WiFi is never ideal, Dell gaming laptops have excellent connectivity. Plus, it comes with the ability to upgrade to The Killer 1535, which features Extreme Range technology that can add additional signal amplifiers to the unit, which can provide an extreme range for those that need a strong WiFi connection for reduced latency and better all-around performance.

Build Quality

The build quality on the 7590 model hasn’t changed much compared to the previous iteration. However, the latest model does come with a much more conventional-looking material used on the lid, which features full metal construction and finish. Not only does this make the design much more adaptable to business environments, but it also makes the case itself much more durable. I enjoy the finish and the aesthetics of this model over the previous ones.

Benchmarks

Below you can find a bunch of the benchmarks, which I did with quite a few AAA game titles. For the sake of benchmarks, in all games, the graphics settings were set to Ultra with a resolution of 1920p x 1080p. What types of games did I choose for the test?

I mainly choose AAA open-world games because they need a bit more processing from GPU size. Why, well, because they have a vast, explorable set of maps in which gamers as players can do anything (within the foundations of the options available in the game) literally. Please be advised that I did my best only to choose games that really and impressively use close-to-precise physics to simulate different aspects of the scene. These simulation helps to generate an immersive and vivid environment and offer dynamic lightning. Here are the results.

Game Title Low FPS (1%) Average FPS
Far Cry 5 64 85.5
Star Wars Battlefront 2 80 111.2
Dirt 4 63 79.6
Middle Earth: Shadow Of War 49 76
Watch Dogs 2 42 56
Mass Effects Andromeda 55 81
Battlefront 1 71.6 106.5
