10 Tips To Improve Windows Computer Performance – 2020 Ultimate Guide

For many of us, our computer does not work as fast as we would like or as fast as it used to. In this guide, we will be discussing 10 tips to improve Windows computer performance. Obviously, nothing beats a hardware upgrade, but if you have a low-end computer, some of these tips can help you. Now, if you have a high-end computer, a modern computer that you’ve just upgraded or something like that’s still running slowly, you may have other problems that probably won’t help you.

But if your computer has become slower or has always been a little slow. This should help, to some extent.

So, to start with, it will probably only make a difference if you have a very low-end computer or an old computer or like an old laptop, and that is to turn off the visual effects in Windows. Now you can do this by going to startup, then typing performance, then going to adjusting the appearance and performance of the Windows, then checking the adjustment for best performance, and what it will simply do is remove a lot of fanciful animations perhaps from the graphic effects.

So Windows will probably look a little uglier, but it may seem a little chicer because you’re not like waiting for animations and things like that. So, once again, it will be for very low-end equipment with very low graphics power.

The next thing you can try is to make Windows use a high-performance power plan. You can access it by going to the Start menu, then Settings, then System Power and Standby, then clicking on Additional and Default Power Options. This will prove to be balanced. But there will probably be other options displayed here, and high performance is obviously the one you may want to consider, especially if you are on a desktop.

Now, if you use a laptop that’s still plugged in, you can also opt for high performance, but be aware that if you use a laptop computer that is not connected to a discharged battery, the battery life will probably be significantly reduced. In this case, you may not want to change it, but if you use AC power, high performance is probably the best. If your computer is obviously slow most of the time, also, keep in mind that this will ensure that your CPE will run at a higher default clock all the time.

So, if you’re concerned about energy consumption or if you have a bad cooling of your computer, you may notice that it’s hotter and the fans are running faster, so if you notice that you’re going to like it, you can of course just put it back on a high-performance scale. But if you don’t notice any problems running at higher temperatures and there probably won’t even be such a big difference. You can just keep it on high performance. That’s what I do on my main computer. The next thing you can try is either to disable or limit Windows search indexing so that you can access this setting by going to the settings, then search and search in the Windows tab and you can either set this classic to reduce the number of indexed files significantly, and it will only be able to search in as libraries and the desktop.

So it will not look for everything else on your computer. If you set it to improve, I think it could be the default value in new Windows installations. It will look for files other than libraries. This will probably make a bigger difference if you have many files and use a hard disk rather than an SSD. If you use the SSD, it may not make much difference, but it is still worth a try. But be careful if you turn it off and on again when Windows reinvests everything.

It can slow your computer down for a while when it has to reinvest everything, so be aware of that, but you may notice a difference if you disable it completely on low-end computers and don’t do a lot of files searching that you already know where everything is. It may be worth turning it off so that it is not always going through the files. Now, the next feature we can enjoy is called “ready boost.” You may have heard of it, but it allows you to insert a USB key and use it as a slower RAM.

So basically, Windows can use it to store commonly used files on the USB stick or to unload RAM on it if you don’t have a lot of RAM. And the idea is that instead of using virtual memory on the hard drive. If you use a hard disk, it’s very slow. If you use a USB stick because it is a flash memory, this can be even faster, and this way, you can get some potential extra speed if you are still short of RAM and you have a slow drive now to use this feature, you will need to insert a USB key into any USB port on the computer.

And I think it should be between one gigabyte free and 32 gigabytes free and I can believe there are already files on it. But if you have a computer that could potentially benefit from it, you will have several options to choose to dedicate this device to a ready-to-use boost, in which case I think it could delete it or you may have to delete it yourself first. Or you can just knock. Use this device and select an amount to reserve for this function. Again, this feature will probably only make a difference if you don’t have a lot of RAM in the first place so either you have four gigabytes or potentially less, or you have less than 8 gigabytes but you still use a lot of RAM something like that, and your computer is constantly running against this limit and needs other places to store it, and your hard drive is not very fast for the page file we will discuss next.

So it might be useful if you have a very low-end computer, but if your computer is reasonably fast with Ram at least, it might not be beneficial to you, but it might still be useful to try it. All right now, the next thing we can try is to increase the size of the page file in Windows. I’ll try to explain how it works. A little like the same idea with the boost page file is a much older feature, and it’s a little bit the same thing where if your computer starts running out of memory, it will start storing temporary files or commonly used files that it still has to access frequently.

Any so-called page file or a dedicated area of the hard disk instead of RAM will unload things from RAM to the hard disk and use them instead. But of course, a hard disk is much slower than RAM, so it’s a bit like a last resort, but if you don’t have a lot of RAM, you still have to use it. So, if you don’t have enough RAM and you don’t even have enough page file size as a backup, then your computer will run extremely slowly, and you want to make sure that the size of your page file is definitely big enough to use everything it needs to slow down to change the settings.

What you need to do is go to the Start menu. Again, we will do the same thing as before. Type this P.C. and go to the properties and then go to the advanced settings of the system. Then under the performance of the Advanced tab. Go to Settings, then to the advanced tab here, then search for the virtual memory, then click Edit. By default, it will probably already tell you automatically manage the size of the paging file for all players. So if you want to change this, you can just uncheck that then you will want to search for the player tagged managed system and just click on it, and this will show you some information on how large the page file size is.

And it is on this basis that you can decide whether or not to change it. If the page file size is already about as large as your memory, your maximum RAM memory is probably sufficient, but if it is very small, you can modify it, and you can do so by modifying it to a custom size, then adjust the initial size to what is recommended and then the maximum file size to really as much space as you are willing to allow. Or, if you want to leave the system managed alone, you can simply add multiple disks.

If you have them and add an additional page file on an additional drive so that you can just click to drive without a page file and then also select the size managed by the system or select custom. In this way, they are all the best to manage the sides of things automatically. You will only have an extra disk, and ideally, if you have an SSD, you would put at least one of the page files on an SSD because it is much faster than a hard disk and even faster than what you would get from a ready-to-use USB stick.

Ideally, a page file should be at least one of them on an SSD if you can afford it, but having a file of the right size, even our hard drive is better than nothing. At the moment, the next two are somehow linked, and it is a matter of making sure that there are no corrupted files in the Windows installation and the first is the system file checker, and it is a tool integrated into Windows that will automatically link it to what a scan of Windows files says. Check for corruption or anything else and try to repair it automatically.

So to do this, you will have to go to the command prompt so that you can simply go to the search command prompt of the Start or CMB menu, then right-click on Run as administrator, and it will appear, then you type C space slash scan now and then let it do its job, it may take a while but as an hour or more potentially but you can do something else during its execution, and then, we hope it will say that we will not find any errors and it will return with something then try to fix everything.

I hope he will be able to repair it in this case. Now, I can’t get into all the mistakes it can produce if something goes wrong, you just have to google it and try to fix it yourself. There is yet another command you can type in which you can do a similar scan but a little differently, but it will also do the same thing essentially where I scan corrupted files.

Try replacing them with automatic Windows updates. So, again, you will want to open the command prompt and type the following command. And again, all you have to do is let him do it, and hopefully, he will be able to fix any problem if he finds one. Now, one important thing to note is that after launching the system file checker and then the DSM command lets them both run.

You probably want to restart and then run the system file checker again because both commands to perform the scans can be based on files that the other may have repaired. So, if the system file checker was not able to repair something, then when you started the DSM, it could actually have repaired a file that will allow that system file checker to repair it the next time you start it. That’s why you want to run both, then run the system file checker again, and then, we hope it will fix it. If there are persistent problems and these are good commands to run from time to time, even if your computer has no problems because there may be a corrupted file that doesn’t really make a big difference but starts to accumulate over time and then before you know it, it’s good to stay informed and run these tests to make sure everything is still working well.

All right, that’s fine. Then we want to take advantage of Windows automated maintenance. Now, this is something that Windows should run automatically every day, but if it doesn’t work properly, it could cause problems, and you can do this by going to the Start menu, then typing in the control panel, then going to the system and security and maintenance, then going to the drop-down menu next to maintenance. Here you can check the date of the last execution of the automated maintenance, so if you have been able to go to the maintenance modification settings for some time and select a better time when the computer can actually be turned on.

I think that even if it is set to 2:00 a. m. By default, it will probably start the next time Windows starts, but this may not happen if you notice that it hasn’t worked for a while. So all you have to do is adjust it at a time when you know that you may not be using the computer, but it is still on, or you can also click on Start maintenance, and it will do so right away. Scan what’s going on in the computer for about 60 seconds, it will tell you, then print a basic report and it won’t solve anything, but you may have some clues about the causes of problems and slowdowns. Thus, you can look like any big warning or under the base system checks if there are problems with the readers or something it can tell you that or check the overview of resources for everything that is obvious. If you don’t really know what you’re looking at, it may not be very useful, but you’re a little more familiar with the technology than you can at least get an idea.

Maybe if you see a big warning and you’re like it’s obvious. I’ll see if I can fix it right away. This could result in legal action. I know we can finally review some tips that should be pretty obvious, but these are things you should really try. If your computer is running slowly, it will probably make the biggest difference. But I guess most of you have already tried that, but if not. These are things you have to do. First of all, if your hard drive fills up even if it is an SSD, you really need to free up as much space as possible.

So review the list of programs under Settings, then the applications and uninstall anything you don’t use. It’s just taking up space. You can also use a program that I really like called windier stat and so literally show you the biggest files on your computer, so if you see one that is as massive as you are like, oh my God, I forgot this guide file or something like that. Then you can go in and delete it, and it should be quite obvious. The next thing I want to say is that it’s pretty obvious; it’s to disable as many boot programs as possible that you don’t use.

So, if you’re not going to at least uninstall the program, you’re not using it at least not starting it with Windows, and you can do that, it’s very easy by pressing the shift escape command to display the task manager. Now you can really easily go to the task manager start tab, and they will tell you everything and start with Windows, and nowadays, they will even try to tell you which programs have the greatest impact at startup and use the most resources. It may not always be very precise, but it will still give you a pretty good idea.

So just come by here if you know you’re not using a program that you can right-click, and you can’t start with Windows. If you are not sure what a program is, this may not be the best way to disable it because you could disable something important. But if you recognize a program, you’re like I never use it. Then you will prevent it from starting, and this should lead to a very large increase in performance because not only will it speed up the start-up of your computer, but it will also reduce the number of things that run in the background all the time.

Because usually, if something starts with Windows, it never stops. Ah, the last piece of advice I should mention is really good. If your computer is running slowly, you have the impression that it is once a day, but not usually. And it’s to go to the Start menu and press restart instead of stopping and activating it again. And the reason for this is that Windows 10 actually makes it by default a kind of hybrid hibernate slash shutdown where if you just stopped it, it actually records a lot of things still running on the disk so that it can recover this and then restore it in the RAM and start Windows faster, but it also means if there are some things that work in the RAM that slow down the computer while the computer will persist even after the computer stops.

While if you do a restart, the Windows will completely erase and start over again and actually restart. So if your computer is running slowly and you try to turn it off and on again, just try to restart it, it will restart properly instead of turning it off, which is already done.
